Volunteer for the Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry
Volunteer for the annual Dancing in the Streets community festival (Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach, Florida)
Served as a mayoral appointee (Atlantic Beach, FL) to the city's Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee. Steve developed and coordinated the city's Acoustic Night and Songwriters' Night.

2002: Outstanding Faculty Award. Florida Community College at Jacksonville.
1992: Outstanding Duval County High School Social Studies Teacher.
1986: One of five (5) finalists for Duval County ( Florida ) Teacher of the Year.
1983: Recipient of the Distinguished Teaching Service Award from the National Council for Geographic Education. One of 15 recipients in North America. Award presented in Ocho Rios, Jamaica .
